Caumsett 50K my second ultra and definatly the most fun. I had great race. I hit the marathon mark at my second fastest marathon time. My pace was 9:16 pretty good. The experience was fun, weather was perfect. It was also nice meeting the other ultra-runners in New York. Very good experience.

Garmin Connect - Activity Details for manhattan half-glycernin 8 sucks

Just got back from Manhattan half marathon. Woke up too late. Didn't run 6 before hand like planned.  Was not feeling it today. And then at about mile 3 I had to take a shit. Had to hold it till mile 5.5 where the port-o lets were. It was a big one. After that I felt fine till the end, then ran home. Bad race, oh well. Got a lot miles in this week though. 47 mile week so overall it was not so bad.

Where they hell is everyone. Did not see a sole on the river, except a couple bike comuters and the lady with the cripled dog in the baby stroller.

Yesterdays run brought two surprising things. Great to go up north and see sights i usually don't see on my runs. It is confusing getting back to the river from Ft. Tyron and especially near the George Washington Bridge. I guess I could of gone farther north into inwood park. I guess I can do that next time.

Blood: I never get bloody nipples or bloody toe nails. That is until yesterday. I guess you even need body glide in the winter. I usually don't have chaffing issues when it is not humid so I didn't think about it. Oh, well what can one do about it.
Remember body glide on all my runs.

I am going to take this morning off, then I will go run with Susannah tonight.

Great long run today. Run up north on the hudson, went up to Ft. Tyron Park and the Cloisters. Great day. Weather a bit cold, but nice. Got lost a little trying to get back to the river in order to get back. Felt good the whole time. Longest run since the 60K, so I am feeling that I am back on track with my training for the 50K in LI in March.

So last month I put up my preliminary training plan. So here is what I have signed up for so far this year.

March 7th Camusset 50K Long Island
May 1st Flying Pig Marathon
July 3rd Finger Lakes 50 Miler.

It looks like I was the first person to sign up for the Finger Lakes 50 because on the blog I am the only one listed. That is crazy, or I was way to annal in getting the entry in early.
First week of the new year and things are good. Five days straight of running. Working hard to get everypace, my running coaching company off the ground. Lead my first group run at the Running Company. Happy it went well. Tried out the new Glycerin 8 on my run today. Great shoe, softer than last years. Felt a little different in the arch. Think it will be a good shoe. It has a nice ride to it.

Been working on my website a lot this week and going to a iweb trainin at the apple store later today.

This Saturday I ran my first ultra marathon, the Knickerbocker 60K. It was an awesome experience. I think it changed my outlook on running. I plan to jump into ultras. Hopefully running my first 50 miler this summer. It was a different outlook on how to run and how to train and how to live. It showed me the power of my endurance.
Overall this years running was highlighted by finally breaking four hours int the marathon and then completing my first ultra with a better pace than my first four marathons. I think is bodes well for the future.

2010 Preliminary Plan
Manhattan Half Marathon
Camuset 50K
NYC Half Marathon
Flying Pig Marathon
Brooklyn Half Marathon
Finger Lakes 50 miler
NYC Marathon
JFK 50
and maybe some other random races. This is all preliminary can't rush to any decisions yet. But we will see.

NYC Marathon was yesterday. It was a great time. I am happy that I had my pr at 4:03:22 still waiting to pass the elusive 4 hour mark. It was unusual race. I had good first 1/2 and good last 5k and had struggles through queens until the Bronx. I did a few new things, firstly I wore my ipod, which i do not usual wear for marathons. I wear it for training and shorter races, but not marathons. I also tried the arm warmers and I liked them until it warmed up a bit.

Shoes: Brooks Ghost wear great, just as they were in Chicago. I felt the pavement a bit more yesterday, but the shoes have just completed 2 marathons in less than a month.

Weather: Great weather. Worst part was waiting in Staten Island in the cold before the race. But the arm warmers worked great. Kept my arms warm before the race and the Brooklyn section.

Pace: I can't help for picking up my pace in Brooklyn on 4th Avenue. I am feeling good and especially when you get to Park Slope you can really hear the support. But long term I think I need to work on it.

The new coral system. Excellent. I started 20 minutes before I was sopposed to. I did not have wiggle around slow runners and walkers. Last year the bridge was like an obstacle course.

Overall it was great race. I think I am going to try to plan more strategy for NYC next year, but we will see. Go run.

I think I will take a week off from running. Focus more on speed this winter do a winter and spring marathon and skip the Knickerbocker 60K.

NYC Marathon Weekend. I am excited for the NYC Marathon tomorrow. I went to the expo last night to pick up my number. I am beginning to really feel the spirit of the marathon. The NYC Marathon is an amazing event. It is fun seeing the people from all over the world coming to the city. I am excited about the weather. It is going to be almost perfect marathon weather. It will be cold in the morning. The 6:30 Staten island ferry will be a good ride. I am excited about the new corals, I won't have hopefully waste energy weaving through slow people. I am feeling good. I feel well rested after Chicago and my ankle that I tweaked jumping for the subway on Monday seems heeled.

At the expo I sat in on a question and answer gathering with Ryan Hall, Brian Sell, and Dathan Ritzenhein. They were fabulous, and answered everyone questions about training and the Olympic experience. It was great to see athletes so open about their training. I asked them about their recovery routine and Dathan said he will relax and have a couple of beers. Ryan said he won't run for a couple of weeks. It is good to see them so candid about their training routine and gives inspiration to us at the back of the pack.

I talked to the Brooks rep and am excited for the new Cascadia coming out 1/1/09 and it will be bright yellow and black. I am excited for that. I also talked to the people pushing my January Marathon plans Miami or Rock N' Roll Arizona. We will see. I think I should see how everything goes on tomorrow. If I feel good I might even do the Knickerbocker 60K on November 15th.

My picks for the election. William Howard Taft's ghost wont let obama win Ohio, but he will still trounce McCain.
